decades ago. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec has new clues in the case. >> reporter: her mother wrote on her facebook page last night, dear michaela, this could be in. she is talking about a bone fragment that was found. they tested it here at the hayward police department. the results were inconclusive. that bone now being sent to a lab in virginia. the results could take weeks. but there are some reasons to believe that that bone fragment could belong to michaela garecht. she was abducted in hayward in 1988. that bone was initially given to the family of another victim, joann hobson's remains found in a well in linden, a well where remains from victims of two serial killers dubbed the "speed freak" killers have been found. that was back in february. when hobson's family received the remains, they ordered some tests, suspicious after seeing investigators dig up the burial site with a backhoe. that testing found 28 of the bone fragments given to the family belonged to other people. at least three other people, including a child between the ages of 5 and 14. michaela was 9 when she disappeare

know him? >> i knew him from the very beginning of my life at cbs, 1964. he was the executive producer of cbs evening news, the cronkite news, when i joined. shortly after he was fired, and was in a kind of limbo or siberia for a couple of years. i did a documentary for them in 1968. don was the nominal executive producer. so i have known him for a long time. when we came up with this idea of "60 minutes," he became a kind of willy loman. he put together a reel of all cbs reports using 10 or 15 minute segments, taking the best of each of them and putting together a reel he went shopping that around to every executive at cbs. he brought that to me, to others, trying to sell and get support for his idea of this thing he called "60 minutes." he had harry reasoner, the original host in, call this a pilot if you like. then he added mike wallace into the pilot. it was his relentless pursuit. they said, ok, we will do it. we will try. we will put you on at 6:00 on a sunday. so harry and i went on. later, harry left to go to abc and they brought me to be the other guy on "60 minutes." we were

in an antiwar rally march and probing windows splashed buildings with paint and more. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington now in downtown oakland to show us some of the damage on this monday. >> reporter: good morning. a broken bottle on the ground paint splashed on the glass and just about every, single window broken. other buildings suffered similar damage including city hall following an antiwar rally. about 200 demonstrators met at frank ogawa plaza for a march through downtown to mark the 11th anniversary of the start of the war in afghanistan. by 8:15 they dispersed. then there was vandalism on various buildings in the area. oakland residents are fed up with this type of behavior that costs the city money. >> it doesn't make any sense. the bank doesn't have anything to do with the war. oakland has enough budget problems that this creates more problems in oakland when oakland is not the place make the decisions. they need to gowashington or to go to washington or other areas. >> reporter: there is a lot of clean-up to do. elissa harrington, cbs 5. >>> police in san francisco arresting 20

and the governor is taking action to drive down the cost. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in south san francisco right now where the average price, cate, of regular gas is well over 4.60 a gallon. >> reporter: that's right, michelle. actually it's the two stations nearby. one is at 4.79 a gallon the other across the street 4.99 for a gallon of regular. the governor is asking for the release of less expensive blends. the early release will bring up gas supplies 8 to 10%. experts say it could drop gas prices about 15 to 20 cents per gallon of regular but it could still take a week before we see any changes. according to the aaa, gas prices are at record highs in san francisco. we're look at $4.73 for a gavel regular in san jose and oakland. it's $4.67. our state supplies were cut short after the chevron refinery fire in august and a power failure that knocked out an exxon refinery southern california. >> california runs a tight supply and demand balance because we use different blends of gas than the rest of the country so if anything goes wrong we can't get more parts of gas from other parts of
